What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is considered as the excessive production of sweat. It occurs unrelated to temperature, physical strain or season. Some people only sweat profusely in specific areas; others may experience an enhanced sweat production throughout the entire body. Depending on the quantity of sweat, we differentiate between a lite, moderate or heavy form of hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis can be very uncomfortable for the parties concerned. Because of the excessive sweating and the odor usually resulting of this, many feel restricted in their social surrounding, tend to avoid tight fitting clothes and can also suffer from this condition mentally. Hyperhidrosis may even cause eczemas or a fungal infection.
Treatment Options for Hyperhidrosis
If you are also suffering from excessive sweat production, our dermatological practice in Zurich can provide two treatment options. Both forms of treatment are aimed to inhibit sweat glands which will into you no longer sweat permanently.
Treatment with Botulinum Toxin (Botox®)
Most people think of botulinum toxin (Botox®) as a purely cosmetic treatment. Although, botulinum toxin (Botox®) is used in a wide variety of medical fields.
During the hyperhidrosis treatment, the botulinum toxin (Botox®), is injected into the affected area underneath the skin, where the sweat glands are located. After this, it will only take a few days for it to unfold its effect by blocking the nerve impulses, which stimulate the sweat production. This will result in noticeable sweat reduction. This treatment only requires one session, which will last about four to six months. Once the effect wears off, another session can be performed at any time.
Radiofrequency Therapy with Infini
During the Radiofrequency therapy for excessive sweating around the arm pits, the properties of radiofrequencies are combined with microneedles. This forms the term Radiofrequency-Microneedling. This treatment will result in a permanently noticeable relief of hyperhidrosis and will require three sessions, spaced throughout four to six weeks each. Up to 80% of sweat glands will be destroyed during this process.

The area in question will then be disinfected and botulinum toxin (Botox®) will be injected using multiple needle insertions couple of centimeters apart. The needles we use for this procedure are so thin (“Invisible Needles“), that no preemptive anesthetic will be necessary.
The treatment usually only takes a couple of minutes. You will be able to depart from our practice directly after and go about your day as usual. You will notice a significant hyperhidrosis improvement after only a few days.
Radiofrequency Microneedling Treatment
Should you make the decision of implementing Radiofrequency Microneedling, the area in question will first be disinfected and treated with a local anesthetic. As soon as the anesthesia takes effect, the treatment will commence. The Radiofrequency devices hand piece will then be moved slowly over the area in question. During which fine golden Needles will puncture the skin and emit small burst of heat, which in turn will destroy the sweat glands. The effected sweat glands are then removed by the body's own natural processes. We are able to destroy up to 80% of sweat glands during the sessions. After approximately 10 days, you will no longer have to struggle with excessive sweating or body odor.
